Why Li-ion battery motors?

The Lithium-ion battery is a type of rechargeable battery, with advanced and proven technology. Lithium-ion batteries are most commonly used in our day-to-day devices, such as smartphones and tablets, laptops, power tools and electric cars.

Compared to other rechargeable batteries, Lithium-ion technology has several advantages:

• It saves 30% space
• It has virtually no memory effect: charging and discharging does not cause a decrease of the battery capacity
• Low self-discharge: Li-ion batteries can be stored without the necessity to recharge

The Somfy Li-ion offer is comprised of three main elements:

• Li-ion battery packs
• WireFree Li-ion motors
• Li-ion chargers

The function of each element is meticulously tested in order to ensure safe, optimal performance for Li-ion battery cells.

Somfy Li-ion Battery Packs

Somfy Li-ion battery packs incorporate a special Protection Circuit Module (PCM) to ensure battery cell safety and prevent the following:

• • Overcharging and over-discharging
  • Over current and Short Circuit Protection

Our Li-ion battery packs comply with:

• • IEC 62133 (Battery Safety testing)
  • UN 38.3 (Recommendations on the transport of Dangerous Goods)
  • UL 2054 (Household and Commercial batteries)

Somfy WireFree Li-ion Motors

Somfy WireFree Li-ion motors utilise advanced technology to monitor and manage the state of the Li-ion battery, thus preventing any possibility of overcharge and over-discharge.

Our WireFree Li-ion motors comply with IEC 60335 (Household appliance safety standard).

Somfy Li-ion Chargers

Somfy Li-ion chargers manage the charge of the battery pack. They are specific for Li-ion technology in order to ensure safe, rapid charging.

Our Li-ion chargers comply with UL 1310 (Safety Class 2 Power Units).

How does Somfy test Li-ion motors?
